How does a urine-diverting toilet work?
A urine-diverting toilet works completely without water. The secret: urine and solids are collected separately. This prevents the excrement from mixing - and this significantly reduces unpleasant odors.
The BOXIO urine-diverting toilet in Eurobox format works like this:
- A special separating insert directs the urine to the front into a separate tank.
- The solids fall into a container with a bag at the back.
- You then sprinkle some hemp litter over the solids. This binds moisture and also helps to reduce odors.
Simple, clean and perfect for on the go.
How durable is the BOXIO TOILET – can I sit on it without any problems?
The folded-down separator insert of the BOXIO TOILET can support a load of up to 150 kg . Important: The load should always be supported by the separator insert. The lid alone would sag; however, in combination with the separator insert, the system can also withstand up to 150 kg.
There are unpleasant smells coming from the BOXIO toilet – what can I do about it?
Scents are highly individual and depend, for example, on diet and health. The important thing is:
- After each larger bowel movement, sprinkle some litter over the solids to absorb moisture.
- Close the bucket with the lid if necessary and empty it regularly.
- With the urine canister, you can prevent odors from rising from the canister by using the closed lid or the red plug .
If you wish, you can use a microbiological toilet additive . Make sure it is free of harsh chemicals .
Which bedding should I use – do other beddings besides hemp bedding work?
Basically, all common cat litters work similarly: they absorb moisture from the solids and thus reduce unpleasant odors.
We tested different types and chose hemp bedding because of its very good moisture and odor retention.
On average, one bag of hemp litter is enough for about 10-15 bowel movements . The litter does not decompose the feces – it "only" ensures dryness and less odor.
Does the BOXIO TOILET also work for small children?
Yes, even children can use the BOXIO TOILET Use it. Depending on age, it may take a little practice and some sliding back and forth on the seat, then the separation works reliably.
What are the dimensions of the BOXIO TOILET and will it fit in my camper?
Yes, that's exactly what it's designed for! The compact Eurobox format should find a place in every camper.
TIP: Choose a suitable location when planning the expansion.
- Height of the Eurobox with lid : approx. 28 cm (please allow approx. 5 mm buffer during installation).
- Height of the toilet with lid and toilet up : approx. 39 cm .
- The BOXIO TOILET is not compatible with Tanos Systainers and the Sortimo shelving system.
- A lower box is not possible, as all components are designed to match the height of our Eurobox.
How do I clean the BOXIO TOILET and which cleaning agents are suitable?
The BOXIO TOILET uses PP, ABS, HDPE and silicone. These materials can be cleaned with a low-concentration alkaline solution of baking soda and/or vinegar mixed with water .
You can also use a surface disinfectant – please check the material compatibility beforehand and, if in doubt, test it first on an inconspicuous area.
Our BOXIO - Clean cleaner is basically ready to use , but can also be diluted for light soiling to minimize consumption.

This year, we (once again) converted a camper and this time installed the Boxio toilet. Thanks to the Eurobox format, it was really very easy to integrate.
The first few trips to the toilet while on the road did take some getting used to, and as a man, I found it a bit easier to aim for the designated openings. But after a short adjustment period, we were able to resolve these issues on our own, and we’re absolutely thrilled with the toilet.
In our estimation, the 5L urine tank (for two adults) lasts a maximum of two days. For this reason, I tried to empty the tank daily to maintain a certain reserve—which wasn’t a problem, since it could be emptied at any restroom.
In addition, after emptying it, we always added an active oxygen tablet (the cheapest denture cleaner tablets available at the drugstore) into the urine tank, which significantly reduced the (normally occurring) odor. Furthermore, it wasn’t always possible to rinse out the tank after emptying it, but thanks to the tablets, we didn’t have any problems with buildup or anything like that.
We also noticed during use that the four screws holding the toilet insert in place kept coming loose. I attributed this to the friction caused by lifting the toilet insert to empty it, which is why I later applied threadlocker to the screws.
In the end, we were won over by the system and can wholeheartedly recommend the Boxio toilet.

I love this! Yes, you have to make sure you position yourself correctly for #1 and #2. But I haven’t made a mistake yet :-) It’s functional, unassuming, and doesn’t smell if you spray it down after each use (#1). I use it in my small van when camping, and it’s a dream. It doesn’t smell at all! And cleaning it out isn’t too bad. SO much better than a chemical toilet.

€80 would be appropriate. The composting toilet arrived on time and was well-packaged. I tried it out, and it worked fine. However, I have some criticism regarding the price of this thing.
